26 Years of KMFDM
This past February marked the 26th Anniversary of KMFDM! It all began at a performance art exhibition on February 29th, 1984 in Paris at the Grand Palais. 26 years later by way of Hamburg, Chicago, Seattle and now Hamburg again, through one break up and one reformation, numerous releases, three (or six) record labels, untold live shows, an army of undeserving critics, incalculable line-up changes, hordes of imitators, the destruction of all pretension and an unbelievable legion of fans and followers KMFDM remain as ALIVE and INDEPENDENT as ever.

The world is facing an epidemic of drug abuse. All of our lives have been or will be touched by this insidious monster. The intention of the “You,Drugs and Booze” music video is to educate and expand drug abuse awareness. Tony McGarrett is dedicating this video to his cousin Hance, who lost his life after years of trying to kick the habit. Who in a moment of madness relapsed, he took a hit, he thought was his normal dose. Hance’s body was no longer accustomed to his former high drug dose, and it killed him. This is a sad fact, all to common amongst drug users. Tony and his family have experienced the sad reality of this scourge and the anguish can be heard in his song “You, Drugs and Booze.” The message of his video is to raise a awareness, to help other families to avoid this kind of devastation. The abuse of drugs is creeping up on us all with consequences and numbers akin to a country fighting a major war. By the time you are 30 everyone will know at least one addicted person, or someone who has died from drugs…. question ….how many people do you know who have died from drugs? …Tony’s answer: “I don’t know, I lost count, but…. more than I know who has been married and are now divorced!”
